Great weekend to end our
fall season with. W 5-3, W 8-2.
Our players are really hitting the
ball. Mak had a shot down the right side for a double. Erica
Wares had a nice line drive up the middle to score some runs and so did
Chelsea Birchmier.
Both pitchers (Aurora Bloom and Brittani West) are getting better with the
help of Coach Kopp tweaking their pitches and calling a good game for
them. We still need some work in the outfield but it will
come along. If anyone is interested in transferring in at mid year I
am looking for a catcher and some outfielders with speed and good
bats. Call me for an appointment to tour the campus and talk about
scholarship
opportunities. Ellsworth is building a winning program. We are
looking for hard working players.
Thanks parents for bringing some great food for our cookout. It was
nice meeting you and talking with you.
9/25/08: Iowa Central Community College Tie 3-3, L 8-2
Great first game. We scored first
with a couple of back to back hits. They tied us 1-1. We
scored 2 more runs so we were up 3-1 going into the bottom
of the 7th and they scored 2 runs to tied the game and end it. Both
pitchers gave up 5 hits and had 8 strike outs. Our pitcher that game
was Brittani West who is a freshman. Coach Kopp has been working
with her on her location and movement and it is starting to show.
Her previous game was a shut out against Marshalltown CC. Melanie
Puck is leading our hitting along with Mak, Aurora, Erica, Britanni and
Kaitlyn.
9/18/08:
Marshalltown Community College L 6-2, W 3-0
Brittani West had her best game this
fall. Shutting out Marshalltown in the second game with a no-hitter.
Aurora Bloom
pitched the first game and did well until the late innings. She is
just returning from a back injury and has not thrown enough
to stay strong the whole game. We were tied going into the bottom of
the 7th and Aurora gave up three consecutive walks
which scored to beat us. As Aurora continues to heal our program
will get stronger and stronger. Melanie Puck had a perfect
throw from center field at the plate. Aurora had some great hits to
the gap to score some runs. The team is really coming together.
9/9/08: Kirkwood Community
College L 5-4, L 13-3
The team has 13
Freshman and 3 Sophomores. We started practice Aug. 26th.
We've had 2 1/2 weeks worth of practice. We have one strong
pitcher from last season KK who threw a great first game. We fell
behind 3-0 in the first inning with several errors. I think the
girls were very nervous. Then we came back and put several good
hits together to go ahead 4-3 in the 3rd. We held the lead until
the bottom of the 6th when KK gave up a solo home run to tie the game
4-4. Kirkwood got a run in the 7th to take the game. Very
good game offensively and defensively after the first innnig
jitters. The second game we used two other young pitchers and they
are not quit ready to be competitive at this level YET. In time
and a lot of off season work they could become very good pitchers.
We have another hard thrower but she is injured so we look to use her
more in the spring. The Kirkwood Coach gave Natalie and I both a
great compliment saying how much we have improved the team in such a
short time - 2 weeks. Good things are happening at
Ellsworth. My goal is to make Ellsworth a contender for the
National title. I won a National Championship at the Junior
College level as a player, now I want to win a National Championship as
a coach. I'm looking for the best players in Iowa to help me do
that and then promote them to four year schools from my program.
